Leading producer of noodles, Indomie has rolled out a set of activities to complement efforts to keep the country clean.
It has identified a number of institutions that it is supporting with bins and other resources to ensure that their environment stays clean.
The President of Ghana has instituted a National Sanitation Day, which is the first Saturday of every month, a campaign that began last month.
That day has been set aside to undertake cleaning throughout the country in both public and private places.
While the cleanup will ensure the environment is cleaned after the exercise, indiscriminate littering could make the various cities, towns and villages dirty by the next day. Sensing this challenge, the local brand representatives of Indomie Noodles in Ghana, Multi-Pro Private ltd, has decided to provide litter bins to various institutions to collect waste, to discourage the public form resorting to littering.
Speaking in an interview, the General Manager of Multi-Pro Private Ltd, Girish Sharma said Indomie was making available a number of litter bins at various basic schools, universities, markets, lorry parks and hospitals. He said a team from the company will visit these institutions where the bins will be presented to them.
Mr. Sharma noted the many lives that were lost and the number of people who ended up at hospitals during the devastating cholera outbreak this year. He said as a brand which is in the food sector, they were very concerned about people eating contaminated food and therefore decided to support the sanitation campaign.
“The health of the people is important and we can’t toy with it, and so we want to make as much resources available to ensure a cleaner Ghana”. Mr. Sharma explained.
Indomie is the leading noodles brand in Ghana and globally and has over the years been embarking on various programmes to support society. The distribution of bins is just one the activities that the company will undertake before the end of the year.
The Brands Manager, Shine Torsoo indicated that the presentation of the bins, will be accompanied with public education to ensure that the beneficiaries appreciate the importance of keeping the environment clean and put the bins to proper use. He was unhappy about instances where people either steal these bins or refuse to use them of the intended purposes.
He said the beneficiaries will be told not to misapply the bins, adding that “our team will revisit these institutions to find out if the bins are being appropriately used.
Mr. Torsoo indicated that Indomie will also work closely with various local assemblies to see how they can continue to support them in the campaign to keep the country clean.
He said the National Sanitation Day campaign was laudable and encouraged the public to fully participate in subsequent programmes.
Mr. Sharma on his part said the company as an entity, will be active in such cleanup activities while individual staff will be encouraged and allowed to fully participate in the cleaning campaigns.
