The Ministry of Local Government is considering passing a law that will prevent shop owners and commercial vehicles from operating on National Sanitation Day, (NSD).

Deputy Minister, Emmanuel Agyekum says the activities of shop owners and vehicular movement remain a major challenge in their quest to get Ghanaians fully participate in the Sanitation Day activities.

He was speaking to Joy News, Multi TV’s ‘Clean Communities’ at the end of the NSD for December.

Presently, shop owners as well as commercial vehicles are implored to keep their shops and vehicles either closed or parked in order for a successful sanitation activities.

But the Deputy Minister believes a law would coerce people to do the right thing.

“I think immediately what we have to do is to stop vehicular movement whenever we are doing this exercise.

“People are willing to come out to work but even when they are out working with us, they see people moving out without coming out to do anything. I think it’s not good.

“We must put in a law. There must be a law to take care of people moving about without helping us.

He said his outfit will quickly draft a law for consideration by Parliament.
