Head coach of the Nigeria’s beach soccer team, nicknamed Super Sand Eagles, Coach Audu Adamu Ejor has announced his final squad of 10 players for the Copa Lagos 2014.
Coach Ejor as popularly called, picked seven familiar faces and three debutantes for the 4th edition of the Beach soccer competition taking place from Friday December 12-14 at the Eko Atlantic City, Victoria Island, Lagos.
On his drawn final squad, Ejor expressed satisfaction with the performance of the ten players selected in camp as believed they were capable of doing the country proud at the entertaining competition.
The three-time title winning coach said his ambition to win the fourth consecutive berth is achievable as his side will delight to reward Nigerians with another Christmas gift.
“I’m satisfied with the ten players – they know themselves and have good understanding of each others. They are excellent players and proved themselves in training. I’m confident with them, we can win our fourth title,” Ejor said.
“Our ambition is to win again as we normally do every year to give Nigerians another xmas gift,” he said.
Captain Olawale Isiaka of Dolphins topped the list of 10 that also featured record goals scorer Abu Azeez of Warri Wolves and Abia Warriors’ Okemmiri Ogbonnaya was among the prominent faces.
Others listed are goalkeeper Abdul Isah of Kaduna United, 2011 top scorer Victor Tale of Confluence Beach Soccer team, Babatunde Badmus, Emmanuel Ohweferia – both of Owibeseb FC of Lagos.
The new invitees who will seek their first ever international appearance for the Sand Eagles are Lobi Stars’ Musa Najare, goalkeeper Isah Danladi of Sharks, Atiku Sulamon Dayo Owibeseb FC of Lagos.
Meanwhile, the Super Sand Eagles on Tuesday morning suffered their first defeat in a 7-6 loss to Enyimba Beach Soccer team that will be participating in the club category of the competition in a warm-up game.
Nigeria will in their bid for a fourth straight berth face Senegal, Cote d’Ivoire and Ghana in the three-day tournament.
