Asante Kotoko will open the novel Oil Cup competition against Hasaacas at the Essipong Stadium on Friday, December 19, the organizers have confirmed.
The four-team tournament which is organized by a private firm Absolute Peace International (API) is to celebrate Ghana’s oil find and contribute to the Youth Empowerment Fund.
Hearts of Oak and Medeama will play the second game of the competition on Saturday with the winners advancing to the finals to be played on Sunday.
Losers of the preliminary stage will square off in the third-place playoff.
Organizers, API says they aim to make the Oil Cup an annual competition for the benefit of all through their donations to the Youth Empowerment Fund as their major target.
“We want to institute this tournament as one of our own,” Chief Operations Officer of API Nana Ampratwum said.
“We want to ensure that the oil find for Ghana, unlike some other countries, will be blessing than a curse to us.
“This competition aside promoting peace and competitiveness amongst the teams and their supporters will also help educate our people on how we can manage our new found resource and ensure we reap maximum benefits.”
Organizers insist all arrangement have been confirmed with the participating teams to ensure the competition comes off without any hitches.
“We have agreed upon everything with the clubs and everything is set for the competition,” Apratwum added.
This will be the inaugural edition of the Oil Cup competition and will be featuring Hearts of Oak, Asante Kotoko, Medeama and Hasaacas.
All games will be played at the Essipong Stadium in Sekondi.
