Over seventeen young men whose lust to get rich overnight have become victims of a fetish priest's scam. They were conned by a fetish priest, Nana Azumbi, who promised to multiply their monies for them. The victims, some of who spoke to Joy News’ Sammy Darko on Monday, alleged they paid several thousands of cedis to Nana Azumbi in anticipation that their monies would be multiplied. But after several attempts, the fetish priest failed not only to multiply their monies, but also to refund them. The victims said they were not particularly interested in any blood money, but were enticed by claims made by Nana Azumbi on Asempa FM that he could deliver on his promise. One of the victims said he paid GH¢3,000 and asked to call any amount of his choice to be produced by Nana Azumbi's so-called powers, but when he declared GH¢100,000, he was told the gods hated small amounts and so he eventually settled asked for GH¢500,000.Now the victims are dreading the indebtedness imposed on them by the scam, since a chunk of the money paid as ‘appearance fees’ were sourced from soft loans taken from the banks or friends. The Nima Divisional Police Commander, ACP Angwubutoge Awuni, who confirmed the incident to Joy News, said Nana Azumbi is in police custody awaiting trial at the Fast Track High Court. He has been charged with fraud.ACP Awuni noted that fraudulent activities have been on the ascendancy, citing, internet fraud or 'sakawa' as the most popular. He called for more logistics to be provided the police personnel to assist in fighting the crime, and advised the public to stay away from such wild and unscientific claims. Listen to the testimonies of some of the victims in the attached audio.Story by Nathan Gadugah/Myjoyonline
