Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has dismissed the explanation by some drivers that they are yet to receive a list of new transport fares, after the price of fuel was slashed a further 5% last Friday.
Although GPRTU has warned that it would sanction commercial drivers who have refused to reduce the fares by the agreed 5 percent, most of them have refused to comply with the directive.
Vice Chairman of Newtown, 37 and Madina branch of GPRTU, Samson Boye, told Joy News that although they heard that national officers of the GPRTU will communicate a new list, “we haven’t received any letter”.

The drivers have insisted on using the old transport fares.
“I will be surprised if they say they don’t have the price list. They are only trying to hide and do what is not right. It is just an excuse”, Greater Accra regional chairman Robert Sabah said.
He urged passengers to report any driver who insists on using old prices for appropriate sanctions to be applied.
“Passengers should be able to pick [and report] the vehicle number and station where they took the vehicle”, he directed.
