The police have been cautioned against all tendencies that could bring the image of the Ghana Police Service into disrepute.Deputy Commander of Police, (DCOP) James Oppong-Boanuh, Director General, Legal and Prosecution at the Police Headquarters, in Accra, who gave the caution, said the Service had come under serious criticisms from the public recently because of the misconduct of some personnel.
He was speaking at the passing-out parade of 180 recruits at the Eastern Regional Police Training School in Koforidua on Friday.
DCOP Oppong-Boanuh said any police personnel who would be caught violating rules and regulations of the Service would be ruthlessly dealt with.
He reminded the personnel that the Police administration expected them to avoid self-interest and exhibit professionalism in their duties.
DCOP Oppong-Boanuh advised the police to refrain from personal, political and chieftaincy disputes.
He urged the police to fight against internet crime popularly known as “Sakawa” and other sophisticated offences and that the personnel should be a step ahead of criminals who would equally endeavour to outsmart them.
DCOP Oppong-Boanuh urged the police to stay away from narcotic drugs and drunkenness.
The recruits were taken through subjects such as Criminal Law and Procedure, Criminal Investigation, Law of Evidence, Practical Police Duties, Human Rights, Criminology, Social Psychology, Professional Police Ethics, Map Reading, Basic Officers Skills, English and Report Writing.Source: GNA
