The Tema Regional Police Command is investigating a case involving a 52-year-old second-hand shoe dealer who was arrested by the Kasseh Police for allegedly dealing in fake currency.
Kofi Adomako, the suspect at the time of the arrest had a total of GH¢500 of the fake currency in ten and five cedi denominations bearing the same serial numbers.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Joshua Dogbeda, Tema Regional Crime officer confirmed the arrest to the Ghana News Agency on Friday.
Adomako was reported to have bought some food items with the counterfeit money at the Kasseh market where some traders challenged him on the genuineness of the money.
The market women raised the alarm after detecting that the currency was fake, leading to his arrest.
According to the police, Adomako who confessed buying the money from some Nigerians at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra refused to disclose the identity of the syndicate and behaved abnormally when sent to the place.
The suspect, before his arrest was said to have purchased items with the fake currency at the Kasoa, Krakan, Big Ada, Adeiso, Agormanya and Kwahu Mpraeso markets.Source: GNA
