The Bawku Inter-Ethnic Peace Committee has appealed to the people of Bawku Municipality to exercise restraint and avoid acts that can incite passions and cause violence.
“We wish to remind all citizens of Bawku, resident or outside Bawku that nobody can bring peace to our area except we ourselves”, the Committee said in a press release signed by Mr. Thomas Abilla and Mr. David Belko Moli, executive members of the group.
The committee condemned the recent violence and stated that it was determined to work hard in order to restore lasting peace to the Municipality.
It appealed to the public to report any person who would cause or attempt to cause trouble to the security agencies and said that it was not beneficial for any person to engage in acts that would retard the development of the municipality.
The committee said it was upset by the recent violence that caused the death of three persons and destroyed valuable properties.
It said the hostility also resulted in the closure of banks, schools, health facilities and commercial entities.
The committee commended the security agencies for the prompt action that they collectively took to bring the situation under control.
Violence erupted in Bawku last Friday, May 29th and caused the destruction of properties and the loss of three lives.Source: GNA
