A leading member of the political pressure group, Committee for Joint Action, Kwesi Pratt Jnr. Says his confidence in the government is eroding as a result of its increase in fuel prices. He said there was no justification for the Mills-led government to increase prices of petroleum products by 30 per cent.Speaking on Radio Gold’s Alhaji and Alhaji, Mr Pratt said the prices must be reviewed downwards.“There can be no compromise on that one,” he insisted.Mr. Pratt, who is also the Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, said petroleum pricing was a major issue in the last election and the consensus was that the prices could be kept lower. He said it was not right for the government to win the mandate of the people based on a promise to reduce prices of fuel, only to turn around and behave the same way the previous government was behaving.“You cannot continue to behave the way you are behaving,” he noted. He expressed fear that if the current government fails to live up to expectation, there could doom for the country’s development. That is because the president is a man of integrity.“President Mills was the most credible person in the last elections and in fact I wish this government well.”The CJA, according to another leading member, Alhaji Ahmed Ramadan, is set to meet to deliberate on the matter. The group was very vociferous during the previous NPP government regime against incessant increases in the prices of petroleum products. It accused the then government of being insensitive to the plight of the ordinary Ghanaian. It remains to be seen how the pressure group will react to the latest increases given many of its members are leading members of the ruling NDC, some of whom are even holding ministerial positions.Meanwhile a friend of the government, Charles Kofi Wayo believes the president is not aware of the 30 per cent increase in the prices of fuel.Speaking to Joy News over the weekend, Mr Wayo surmised some people in the president’s party want to bring him down.Story by Malik Abass Daabu/Myjoyonline.com
