A two-day 'Hackathon', later this week, will serve as a platform to formulate solutions that will address everyday issues in society.
Innovators and software developers at the event will generate ideas to address lifestyle, transportation, entertainment, household management and related issues.
The event which begins on February 5, is on the theme "Using the power of technology to simplify lives" and comes off at the Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology (MEST).
Across the globe, Hackathons have become unrivaled platforms to providing workable solutions to many issues of our time.
They provide an avenue for technological innovators and software developers to collaborate on various projects to address social needs.
In many places, most participants have found it a useful avenue in realising their dreams. Statistics available from about a year ago indicates that over 10,000 startups have launched at Hackathons worldwide.
Entrepreneurship continues to remain a critical element for flourishing economies, and in most cases, Hackathons present a channel through which it finds expression.
The event is supported by telecoms giant Vodafone Ghana.
Already programmes such as ‘AppStar’ and ‘Mobile for Good’ have become models of technological empowerment after they were brought to life by the telecoms company.
Vodafone Ghana hopes to use the tow-day event to raise awareness and provide answers that will become benchmarks in simplifying lives -- leading to consistent economic emancipation for the average Ghanaian.
Commenting ahead of the event, Head of Strategy and Innovation at Vodafone, Julius Owusu-Kyerematen, at Vodafone said partnering MEST is in line with company's commitment to drive change in society.
"We see this Hackathon as an extension of this commitment to innovation and we are certain that it will generate the desired results”, he said.
