The Ministry of the Interior has renewed the curfew imposed on the Bawku Municipality and Gushegu township and its environs for another week, with effect from June 8.
The decision was based on Executive Instrument and the advice of the Upper East and Northern Regional Security councils.
A press release issued by the sector Minister, Mr Cletus Avoka said the curfew hours for Bawku Municipality have been reviewed from 1600 hours to 0600 hours the following day, while that for Gushegu township remains as 12 midnight to 0400 hours each day.
The release said the reduction in the curfew hours was in recognition of the gradual return of normalcy in the Bawku Municipality and its immediate environs.
It was also intended to allow business to commence and enable the Police and the Military to maintain the calm that is retuning to these areas.
The release said Government believed that, the reduction of the curfew hours would serve as incentive to help maintain and consolidate peace in and around Bawku.
It said: “Government will like to appeal to the good people of Bawku to work towards peace and mutual trust, for where wars have thrived no meaningful development projects, have taken place.”
Meanwhile, Government has reiterated the ban on all persons in the Bawku Municipality, Zabugu, Binduri, Pusiga, Zoasi and Gushegu townships and its environs from carrying arms, ammunitions or any offensive weapon.
The release said any person found with any arms or ammunition would be arrested and prosecuted.Source: GNA
