Government is to relocate industries out of the Central Business District of Accra to Ajinkotoku off the Accra- Nsawam road. This was disclosed by the Minister of Works and Housing, Albert Abongo in an interview with Evans Mensah on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Tuesday. The essence of the relocation according to the Minister is to decongest the Central Business District and to make way for the development of a new commercial center. The news comes in the wake of similar call by the new Mayor of Accra, Alfred Vanderpuije to decongest the CBD.Traders at agbogbloshie, and those at the timber market are to be affected by the relocation exercise, but Mr Abongo maintains the traders will be better of after the redevelopment.“All facilities existing will be enhanced with modern facilities such as road networks, water, sewerage schools and police station.”He said the new location will be conducive for their business. It is an extension of the Korle lagoon project which has been stalled for months following huge resistance by the residents in Sodom and Gomorah.Mr. Abongo indicated there has been extensive consultation with residents and business owners in the area and expects little resistance.Story by Nathan Gadugah/Myjoyonline.com
