Mr Stephen Baidoo Acheampong, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Wassa Amenfi East has observed that the development plans of a nation must focus on its children.
He said children needed special care, attention and protection due to their physical and mental state that made them vulnerable in the society.
Mr Acheampong was addressing the maiden meeting of a District Child Panel at Wassa Akropong.
He said Ghana had become a shinning example to nations desirous of ensuring the welfare of their children after the country had rectified the Convention on the Right of Children which was adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations on November 20, 1989.
Mr Mohammed Wahab, Deputy District Co-ordinating Director, said the United Nations Children’s Fund would soon provide them with the required training to enable them to respond to all issues concerning children in the district.
Mr Gideon Sagoe, Secretary to the child Panel, who is also the District Social Welfare Officer, said his outfit would soon come out with a community Child monitoring committee to collate data on children in the district as part of measures to curb the incidents of Child trafficking and Child Labour in the area.
