State Prosecutors have urged a former Deputy Governor of the Bank of Governor to self-quarantine on his return from a trip to Nigeria.

This is after the Accra High court directed that Dr Johnson Asiama should be given his passport to travel, Thursday.

He’s currently standing trial over accusations he approved a sum of ¢650 million as liquidity support for the defunct UT Bank without following statutory conditions.

He has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him and was granted in the sum of ¢60 million each with three sureties, all to be justified.

Dr Asiama was also required to deposit his passport at the courts within 48 hours and officially write to the court anytime he intends to travel.

The former Deputy BoG Governor's lawyers on Thursday morning informed the court Dr Asiamah intends to travel to Nigeria.

The trial judge Justice Bright Mensah pointed out that Nigeria had already confirmed cases of coronavirus (Covid 19) which is a matter of concern.

State Prosecutors led by Hilda Craig agreed and added that they are not opposed to the application but only want him to be cautious on return.

“In fact, we were concerned for him but we’ve been magnanimous enough not to oppose the application.

"When he returns we hope that his passport will be returned to the court and he should quarantine himself for some few days”, She said.

Justice Mensah then ruled that the Registrar of the court should release the passport to him.

Dr Asiama should return the passport to the registrar and also inform the Attorney General’s office upon his return to the country.
