As part of measures to prevent the spread of COVID- 19, management of the Akatsi District Hospital in the Volta region has banned multiple visits of patients on admission from Tuesday, March 17, 2020.
"The Hospital wishes to announce that it has limited visits to patients on admission to only one (1) relative", the Hospital said.
The Management said the measures had become necessary because patients were already vulnerable and could easily be infected if visitations were not restricted.
Dr Karikari Bonsu, the Acting Medical Superintendent of the Hospital said this during an emergency meeting to discuss the hospital's Coronavirus preparedness and steps taken to prevent it.
The directive further stated that only parents or guardians of children on admission were permitted to visit the children's ward.
Mr Mawuli Asimenu, the Administrative Manager of the Hospital in a related development, said they made some critical changes at the Out Patient Department (OPD) with the introduction of a special unit for screening.
Mr Asimenu said the initiative would ensure safety for hospital attendants and staff.
