Some 20 Burkinabés have been arrested at Balibe Inland Post in the Lawra District of the Upper West Region.
The ECOWAS nationals were caught by Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) officials as “they entered into Ghana through unapproved routes.”
The Burkinabés, ranging ages 15 to 28, were nabbed on board an O.A bus with registration number GR 6499, the GIS said in a release.

“They were en route to Sampa, Techiman and Kumasi respectively. Their migration into Ghana is an economic related issue,” Immigration officials said.
Despite, ECOWAS protocols allowing free movement of goods and persons across member states, Ghana shut all its borders on March 21 in a bid to stop importation of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The country’s borders and others across the sub-region, have since been closed, making entry into the country -- unless otherwise permitted -- illegal.
