The National Democratic Congress (NDC) says reports on the shortlisting of running mates for the 2020 general elections are false.
In a statement signed by the General Secretary of the party, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, said he has not “issued any such statement or cause such publication to be made on [his] behalf.”
“The general public is therefore advised to ignore any such frivolous and fictitious letter, which is clearly a creation of some unscrupulous persons, who want to divert attention from serious burning national issues,” the NDC scribe wrote.
On Tuesday, a purported letter from the NDC said a committee formed by the party functionaries selected five people for consideration as John Mahama’s running mate.
But in his response, Mr Nketiah said, “no sub-committee of the party has been formed or tasked by the National Executive Committee for selection of a running mate.”
“For the avoidance of doubt, the procedures for selecting a running mate as prescribed under article 43 of our party Constitution, does not include the formation of any such sub-committee,” he said.
I have firm idea who my running mate is
In his previous digital live address, Mr. Mahama said he has a firm idea who his running mate will be.
He was responding to mounting pressure to name his running mate with the elections only seven months away.

But Mahama said it there is no need for that now since the country and the world is fighting a pandemic.
Even if I name him, we cannot outdoor him due to social distancing protocols Mahama said.
The NDC leader added in due course, his vice presidential aspirant would be named.
