Father of the final year business student who died at the KNUST Senior High School is lamenting over the failure of teachers to save his son during the boy's ulcer crisis.
Mr. Sam Baidoo says school authorities could have saved his son but instead, they looked on for the health of the boy to deteriorate, a situation that eventually led to his death.
"My wife called me on Monday that she had received a call from the school that my son was sick. When I arrived at the school, I saw my sick son in the midst of a crowd.
"It was when I got there that the authorities asked one of the boys to hail a taxi," he told Accra based 3FM.
Richard Sam, died Tuesday as a result of alleged negligence of school authorities.
Richard who reportedly suffers from ulcer informed his mates about a stomach upset after eating lunch.
The issue was reported to teachers, but for fear of contracting Covid-19, they failed to attend to him.
Subsequently, Richard died at a private hospital where his father managed to rush him to.
The event sparked outraged from the student populace who embarked on a protest demanding for the school to be closed. It took the intervention of police in the area to calm the students.
Thereafter, the Ghana Education Service (GES) interdicted the headmistress of the schools as investigations into the incident begins. A decision teacher associations in the country have kicked against.
President of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Angel Carbonu mounted a strong defense against the interdiction of the headteacher indicating that she had not contributed in any way to the demise of the student.
Mr. Carbonu further indicated that school authorities did their best to administer first aid to the boy before his parents arrived at the school therefore no member of staff must be pushed.
