The President of the Brong Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs, Pimampim Yaw Kagbrese V has asked chiefs to educate their subjects on the need to partake in the ongoing voters' registration exercise.

Speaking at the maiden Brong Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs meeting, he stated that, it is the only way they can exercise their constitutional rights during the 2020 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.

The President, who is also the Paramount Chief of Yeji Traditional Area admonished all going to the registration centres to observe the safety protocols outlined to avoid the spread of Covid-19.

Some political parties have strongly expressed worry over the compilation of the new voters' register, describing the ongoing exercise as a potential way for the virus to spread.

But in his welcome address, Pimampim Yaw Kagbrese V reminded the chiefs that the virus does not have a preference for its host.

"Chiefs, it is important to note that Covid-19 has no regard whatsoever for our feelings, our rights, race, age, or status in life and we need to observe all the health protocols so that we triumph over the virus," he said.

The Bono Region has so far recorded 96 confirmed cases of covid-19, Bono East Region, 142, and Ahafo Region, 36.

The Bono Regional Minister and Chairperson for the Regional Public Health Emergency Management Committee, Evelyn Ama Kumi Richardson, assured the chiefs that they will continue to put in place pragmatic measures, in addition to the Presidential directives, to ensure the spread is contained and minimized in the region.

She commended the chiefs for taking a keen interest in the fight against covid-19 and their cooperation with key state agencies in ensuring compliance with the directives.

"I encourage Nananom on the need to keep abreast with and abide by the preventive measures while using your well-respected authorities to educate our citizens accordingly, in our collective fight against the spread of the virus in our communities", she told the chiefs. 

Madam Evelyn also appealed to the chiefs to strictly adhere to the protocols should it become necessary to perform some traditional and customary rites.

The Minister further asked the chiefs to play their parts to ensure the 2020 election activities will pass peacefully even as they maintain national unity and cohesion.

"Notwithstanding the Covid-19 pandemic and its undeniable adverse effects on our economy."

"The government will not relent on its promise to deliver in the provision of infrastructure, especially roads for socio-economic development, visible improvement, and maintenance of the road networks in the region will be appreciated by the close of this year."
