The Alliance of Feminine CSOs (AFCSOs) has called on the First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo to address the issue of recent attacks on John Mahama's running mate Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang.
According to the group, the act is unacceptable and must be addressed with all the seriousness it deserves.
"This is a clear indication of a deep-seated disrespect among these leading members of the NPP about the capabilities of women which should not be entertained in a forward-thinking democracy," the Alliance said in a statement.
Last week, after former president Mahama selected his running mate, some members of the NPP including MP for the Adentan Yaw Buaben Asamoa, Majority Leader Osei Kyei Mensa Bonsu and NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako spoke negatively about her.
"A communication member of the NPP Abronye further described the NDC female running mate nominee as one whose age due to menopause will not allow her to make any meaningful contribution to governance," the statement further said.
This, the group has indicated are unfair comments that would not have been unleashed on the Vice Presidential Candidate, if it was a male that was nominated.
"We have observed that these men are heavily intimidated by the track records of the female running mate whose academic credentials and international achievements is unparalleled," the statement further indicated.
According to the Alliance, women deserve the same space at the high table, therefore, must not be condemned if they are being given high positions as such.
It wants them to also be reminded that in touting the country's democratic credentials, hate and disrespectful speeches have no space in the body politics and encourage issues-based politics.
