Pan African bank, Ecobank and telco giant, MTN, have organised a blood donation exercise to stock the depleting national blood bank located at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
The exercise, which took place at the fore court of the MTN office in Accra brought together Executives of Ecobank Ghana and MTN, in an effort to support the campaign that was started by the MTN Foundation.
Head of Ecobank's Communications and Public Relations, Patricia Sappor, who spoke at the event on Friday February 13, said the blood donation campaign fits into the bank's mission of developing the African continent.
"This explains why as part of our Corporate Social Responsibility , we have been committed to actively supporting the health sector in various form", she said.
She said blood donation was essential for ensuring that the country's blood banks never run out of stock.
"I believe lives have been lost due to non-availability of blood at critical times. There are widows, widowers and orphans out there simply because there was no blood available to save the lives of their relatives and loved ones. That is heart breaking", Mrs Sappor.
She commended donors and volunteers who came to the support the exercise.
Mrs Sappor also commended MTN Foundation for the initiative adding Ecobank Ghana will " always partner with the Foundation to embark on this life saving activity."
