Renowned Ghanaian Artist, Kwesi Agyare has stated that Ghanaians are not really into arts but foreigners are.
According to Kwesi Agyare, the foreigners understand the arts and also like to patronize them more than Ghanaians.
Speaking to JoyNews’ Becky, he said the artists need an association to put artists together to make a good job.
“The western world appreciates art. For instance, I remember one of my exhibitions, a whole Mayor moved his own people to my exhibition site just to have a look at what is going on.
"I thought it was just going to end there but they bought the painting and I realized how these people were so much into the painting.
"The western world understands the arts industry. The best way to fight these is that we need a very good association or a good stakeholder who will put the artists together,” he recounted.
The renowned artiste revealed that they have also been affected financially even before the world was hit with the COVID-19 pandemic.
“In the arts industry, it has really affected us even before Covid-19, we actually don’t get support from government, and you can imagine the little that we do, this pandemic has taken part of the whole industry.
"To be honest, it is very difficult to survive especially in this part of the world where art has not really gone down. It is quite challenging. To be honest, who is going to leave food to come and buy painting especially in this season?” he quizzed.
