Three suspected armed robbers are in the grips of the Damongo Police Command.
According to the District Police Inspector Joe Botwe, the arrest took place in the middle of a robbery operation on the Damongo-Kotito road in the West Gonja District of the Savannah Region.
Speaking to Adom News' Rebecca Natomah, Police Inspector Joe Botwe said some members of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) campaign team were returning from Kotito when they were ambushed by the armed robbers.
He said the flashlights used by the robbers forced the driver of their vehicle to reverse, giving the occupants and other members riding on motorbikes time to escape.
The men, who rushed to the Busunu Police post to make an official complain left behind their vehicle and three motorbikes.
When the police got to the scene of the robbery, they were able to arrest three of the robbers.
Items retrieved included the three motorbikes belonging to the campaign team, a gun and knives.
The Busunu Police subsequently handed the men over to the Damongo police.
Inspector Joe Botwe added that the suspects have been processed for court and are expected to appear today, September 1.
