Matilda Ampofo, a woman, who had earned the nickname “man woman” was on Thursday arraigned before the Kade Magistrate Court for escaping from lawful custody.
Matilda pleaded guilty and in default would go to prison for 12 months in hard labour.
Police Inspector Francis Cobbina, prosecuting, told the court that on June 3, this year, a case of stealing involving Matilda was reported at the Kade Police station and referred to a police man at the Criminal Investigations Department for investigation.
He said at about 1945 hours, the detective and the complainant in the case together with two others went to the Akwatia Police Station to bring down Matilda who had them been detained for questioning.
The prosecutor said on their way back to Kade, Matilda told the policeman that her accomplice was one Kwasi Punisher of Kade, and that he was preparing to escape to Accra.
He said based on that information, Matilda led the policeman to the supposed accomplice but they could not find him.
The prosecutor said on the way back to where they parked their taxi cab, Matilda told the policeman that she wanted to urinate.
He said since they were accompanied by a woman, she was asked to supervise her but all of a sudden, Matilda took to her heels and headed towards the bush.
The policeman raised the alarm and she was re-captured and taken to the Kade Police station and charged with escaping from lawful custody.
