President Akufo-Addo has stated that although Ghana's the number of active cases has reduced considerably from 1847 to 507 in the last 3 weeks, the country must remain disciplined until the virus is completely eradicated.
In his 17th update to the nation on measures adopted to fight against the pandemic, the president called for more discipline in adhering to the safety protocols in order to completely eliminate the virus.
"Now more than ever we must be even more disciplined in our adherence to the personal hygiene, mask-wearing and social distancing measures that have become part of our daily routines," he said.
Although Ghana presents an encouraging statistics he stated that "the virus has the potential to return with a vengeance once you let your guard down" hence his delay in announcing a return to normalcy in all aspects of national life.
"Truth be told, we can not afford at this critical moment to throw caution to the wind and destroy the incredible amount of work undertaken by Government, health officials, heroic frontline health workers and members of the security agencies in bringing us this far,” he said.
He noted that Greater Accra, Eastern, Ashanti and Central Regions account for about 80 per cent of the active cases with some region recording none.
Currently, 45,258 persons have recovered, with the number of active cases reduced to 507 from the former 1847 cases, with an unfortunate count of 297 deaths.
