Heads of Churches and Ecumenical bodies in Ghana have in a press release pledged to assist government in finding solutions to unrests caused in the Volta Region by the Homeland Study Group Foundation.
The release on Monday condemned the series of destruction by the secessionist group and announced that in order to reach a peaceful consensus, it will engage the chiefs and people of the Volta Region in a dialogue.
“Security operations alone will be insufficient to address it adequately. We pledge our readiness to support government to address the issue amicably” it reads.
Signed by the Chairman of the Christian Council, Dr. Paul K. Boafo, on behalf of all Ecumenical Church Leaders, the statement also said violence has become rampant in the country and called on government to assure Ghanaians of their safety.
“The security breaches that these acts have occasioned have become too common in Ghana, and it is time they are stamped out…We will like to call on Government as a matter of urgency get all the security agencies to declare a war on violent crimes, especially armed robberies, and to eradicate this from our society”.
The religious group reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and unity in the country and further advised the HSGF and any other group with parallel intentions to legitimately address their grievances through civil institutions.
In the same vane, they advised all citizens to maintain a united front and to desist from engaging in activities that jeopardise the country's peace.
