The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called for the establishment of a National Debate Commission to compel every presidential candidate to avail themselves every election year.
Addressing the chief and people of Ahafo Ano South East constituency as part of Prof Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang's tour of the Ashanti Region, the party's Chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo noted that the debates will give candidates a platform to argue out their policies should they win the elections.
This, he believed, will help electorates make informed decisions at the polls.
Citing the United States of America (USA) where a National Debate Commission has been set up, Mr Ampofo said such establishment in Ghana will prevent presidential candidates from fleeing from such debates.
"This is because it [National Debate Commissio] will make it binding that if you want to be president, you must be prepared to stand in front of Ghanaians and tell them what you want to do for them,"
The call follows the refusal of President Nana Akufo-Addo to respond to calls by the opposition Presidential Candidate, John Mahama for an open debate of ideas and policies.
On her part, the running mate for the Presidential candidate, Prof Naana Opoku Agyemang asked the electorates to desist from selling their votes.
She urged the electorates to put common interest above personal interest to ensure development.
