Aide to former President John Dramani Mahama has questioned the Electoral Commission's decision to return the filing fees of disqualified Presidential aspirants, if indeed fraud was detected.
Joyce Bawah Mogtari in a tweet said fraud, per the laws, vitiates contracts, therefore, she cannot understand why there should be a refund if indeed fraud was detected.
"Fraud is also criminal and one can be prosecuted for fraud. Why is EC refunding filing fees of disqualified Candidates if indeed some fraud has been detected?," she said in the tweet.
"Will those allegedly being accused be prosecuted?," she added.
Five aspirants who filed to contest in the 2020 Presidential Elections were disqualified by the Electoral Commission.
The five; Kwesi Addae Odike, Kofi Koranteng, Marricke Kofi Gane, Kwasi Busumbru and Nana Agyenim Boateng were disqualified because of what the EC described as inconsistencies with their filing forms.
Their cases bordered on allegations of forgery of signatures and the manufacturing of endorsees which will be forwarded to the Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further probe.
Sylvia Annor explained that the Commission had duly engaged the affected aspirants on the issues raised before the decision was taken against them.
Even so, Joyce Bawah is asking why the Commission wants to refund the monies when fraud, on the part of the aspirants has been detected.
Meanwhile, the EC has noted that the case has been refered to the CID for further investigations to be conducted.
