National Democratic Congress' (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for Jomoro Constituency, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, says Samia Nkrumah, now turned Independent candidate, disappointed the people of Jomoro during her time in office as MP.
According to her, Samia Nkrumah, then on the tickets of the Convention People’s Party, was entrusted with the responsibility of Member of Parliament based on her father’s legacy, but failed to meet expectations.
Mrs. Affo-Toffey told Joy FM’s ‘The Battle Ground’ host, Emefa Apawu that Samia Nkrumah turned down offers from the then National Democratic Congress government under late former President John Evans Atta-Mills and as such, was unable to do much for her constituents.
“Opportunity was offered to her to do a lot for us but because she didn’t understand the dynamics and the cultural differences, she didn’t take it. She denied us and declined every offer that was given to her and so asides a few other things, she wasn’t able to do much in her power for the people” she said.
Madam Affo-Toffey stated that the NDC party considered Samia Nkrumah as part of them and was prepared to support her, however, Samia declined their offer, which according to her, ultimately led to her defeat in the 2012 and 2016 elections.
"When NDC was in power, they saw her as one of them. She declined the opportunity when she knew that based on her father's legacy, a lot would have been done for Jomoro through her. She didn't want it, and that is the reason why we are where we are today. And that is also why she lost in 2012 and 2016" she added.
Madam Dorcas Affo-Toffey called on the people of Jomoro to vote her into office come December 2020 and
