Ghana Infectious Disease Center (GIDC) will be opened to receive patients in the next few weeks, President Akufo-Addo has announced.
The Center was built to improve the medical, diagnostic and research capacity of Ghana, with regards to infectious diseases.
However, following a recent surge in the country's active Covid-19 cases, President Akufo-Addo says it has become necessary for the place to be opened to receive patients.
"In as much as our hospitalisation rates are very low, care for the sick and the provision of treatment remain an important aspect of our strategy," he said.
The facility, President Akufo-Addo has stated, will be managed by the Ghana Health Service.

The one hundred-bed facility was built due to the emergence of the Covid-19 pandemic in the country.
Its establishment was facilitated by the Ghana Covid-19 Private Sector Fund in collaboration with the Ghana Armed Forces.
In his 19th address to the nation on measures taken to control the spread of Covid-19, President Akufo-Addo paved way for the Center to begin operations.
It will be operating "under the management of the Ghana Health Service," he said.
Ghana's Covid situation

He added that it also behoves the general public to contribute its quota towards completely throwing out the virus by strictly adhering to the safety protocols.
