Member of iRIS Research Consortium, Dr. Theo Acheampong has described as worrying the inability of a cross-section of Ghanaians to link corruption and its effect to national development.

According to him, this explains why from 2002 - to date corruption has never been part of the top 3 issues when it comes to factors that influence people's vote in the general elections.

His comments follows iRIS Research Consortium's survey conducted with a sample of Ghanaians.

Speaking to Evans Mensah on PM Express, the Research fellow, however, stated that the current political survey showed evidence of an increased interest in corruption-related issues by Ghanaians.

"Respondents with tertiary education or higher, rated government's performance on corruption as poor or very poor relative to those with Secondary education or below.

“It's still yet to get to the top 3, but increasingly it's becoming a topical issue," he said.

Dr. Acheampong added that according to the survey, citizens seem to have trust in the incumbent President, Akufo-Addo's ability to better address the issue of corruption than his opponent, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress, John Dramani Mahama.

He added that the electorates believe Akufo-Addo and the New Patriotic Party have a better chance of developing the nation as compared to the NDC.

"Akufo-Addo out-polls John Mahama in education, economy, jobs, corruption, security, and Covid-19 with the exception of infrastructure where John Mahama does better."

In his presentation, he disclosed a 49.14% favorability win for Akufo-Addo according to the survey.
