A total of 17,027,641 eligible Ghanaian voters are expected to cast their ballots at their respective polling centres Monday, December 7, 2020.
Voters will be electing a presidential candidate as well as parliamentary candidates for their respective constituencies.
This is in line with of Article 42 of the 1992 Constitution which mandates "every citizen of Ghana, 18 years of age or above and of sound mind has the right to vote and is entitled to be registered as a voter for the purposes of public elections and referenda."
Voting is expected to take place at 38,622 polling stations in the 275 constituencies across the country.
Twelve presidential candidates are contesting in this years elections.
They are Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo of the NPP, the NDC's John Dramani Mahama, flagbearer of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Brigitte Akosua Dzogbenuku and Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings of the National Democratic Party (NDP).
Others include Hassan Ayariga of the All People’s Congress (APC), Ivor Kobina Greenstreet of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), David Asibi Ayindenaba Apasera of the People’s National Convention (PNC), and others.
Prior to the polls, the Electoral Commission, embarked on a voters' registration exercise to compile a "new credible register" for the country.
A total of 109,577 special voters were expected to cast their ballots on December 1 to cast their ballots ahead of the general elections.
However, the EC disclosed that 13,000 out of the 109,577 failed to cast their ballot.
The Electoral Commission has assured voters of a smooth process as all measures have been put in place.
The Commission has also assured voters of declaring the election results 24 hours after polls close.
Security agencies have also assured the public of their readiness and have cautioned voters against conducting themselves in a manner contrary to the Election laws as persons found culpable of any misconduct will not be spared by the security agencies.
