Taskforce for the Ghana National Association of Small Scale Miners (GNASSM) has halted the activities of a firm allegedly engaging in illegal mining in the Aowin Municipality of the Western North Region.
According to the Public Relations Officer of GNASSM, Abdul Razak Alhassan, a residence manager of Crisphil Goldfield Limited, Philip Nana Koah petitioned the Association on some illegal activities ongoing at the mining site by one of the firm's partners.
Despite the fact that the firm has dismissed claims of illegalities, the Association, however, proceeded to stop operations of Crisphil Goldfield Limited until further notice.
Mr Alhassan disclosed that after investigations were carried out by Crisphil Goldfield Limited, the allegations levelled against their co-partners were proven to be true.
He noted that a court injunction was procured, while the Mineral Commission also stepped in to clamp down the illegal activities.
Nevertheless, all efforts to vacate the firm proved futile.
After many failed attempts to shut down the facility, he said the company resorted to seeking help from GNASSM.
Commander of the GNASSM Taskforce, Patrick Don-Chebe who spoke to Adom News' Boah Augustine said after receiving Crisphil Goldfield Limited's petition, the Association had to step in to intervene.
Meanwhile, Commander Patrick Don-Chebe has urged all members of the Association to desist from breaching the laws that govern mining as stipulated in the constitution.
"We are against illegal mining and we will arrest all those who try to flout these laws," he added.
