Roads and Highways Minister-designate has intimated that President Akufo-Addo embarked on a massive (road) infrastructure development project during his first term in office.
According to Kwesi Amoako Atta, over 50 road projects were embarked on during the first term of the Akufo-Addo led administration.
"For the past four years generally, and last year especially, aggressive work was done in the roads sector. This is being appreciated and seen across the country," he said.
He made this comment during his vetting on Tuesday, where he indicated that the projects total "almost 1,200 kilometres of asphalt overlays."
"In terms of surface dressing, we have done about 50 to 55 different road projects which add up to not less than 25,000 kilometres,” he added.
It will be recalled that in 2019, President Akufo-Addo tagged the next year (2020) as the year of roads.
According to him, it was the year his government had purposed to construct a lot of roads for the citizenry.
However, Covid-19 hit the shores of the country and stalled the progress of these projects.
That notwithstanding, the Minister has stated that Covid-19 could not hamper the government from achieving its set target, as about 55 road projects have been completed.
Nonetheless, he said there's still more work to be done in developing the sector.
“If you take the state of the roads in the country, it’s one thing that all of us must accept, we have not done too well with,” he said.
