The Volta Regional Command of Ghana Immigration Service has intercepted a total of 151 ECOWAS nationals on the Aflao-Dzodze road in the Ketu North Municipal.
The illegal immigrants who were arrested included 119 Nigerians, 22 Nigeriennes, 7 Beninnoise, and 3 Ivorians.

They have, however, been handed over to security authorities in Togo following a bilateral agreement between the francophone country and Ghana.
The interception came as a result of an effective collaboration between the Ketu North Municipal Assembly and the Akanu Sector Command of the Ghana Immigration Service to combat cross-border crimes.
The Sector Commander, Assistant Commissioner (ACI) Felix Agyeman-Bosompem indicated that the collaboration saw the mounting of a checkpoint on the Dzodze-Aflao.

This he said led to the interception of the illegal immigrants over a period of 10 days, adding that “the checkpoint has so far served a great purpose for which it was intended for barely two weeks after positioning it”.
The Ghana Immigration Service has therefore sent out a warning to foreigners planning to use unapproved routes to the country to desist from these illegal practice as the borders remain closed to human traffic.
