Ghanaian referee, Charles Bulu, collapsed while officiating a 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match between Ivory Coast and Ethiopia on Tuesday.
Bulu, who has a FIFA badge, was stretched off the field in the 80th minute after he lost consciousness. It is alleged that he collapsed due to the very hot weather in Abidjan.
The Ivorians were leading 3-1 in the matchday 6 encounter at the Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny before the match ended abruptly following the incident.
The fourth official expected to replace Bulu was an Ivorian and could not take over due to a conflict of interest.
As a result, the match had to be called off with ten minutes left to be played, though it has no relevance since both countries have already secured qualification to the tournament in Cameroon.
