A three-day Poultry Youth Mentorship and Business Bootcamp has organized by the United States Department of Agriculture under the Ghana Poultry Project.
The programme which was held in Accra was to mark the beginning of the fourth cohort of the Mentorship programme since its inception in 2017.
The bootcamp began with a training session on various poultry business topics and interaction with industry experts where the mentees were taught the basics of the business, the “dos” and “don’ts”, best poultry practices, among others.
On day two, participants embarked on an Educational Field Tour of selected poultry firms in and around Accra. The first stop was at ECO Feeding Ghana Limited, a feed producer in Tema. The next stop was AMASS Farms at Oyarifa, a meat processing and packaging site. And the last stop was Nsawam, RansBoat Poultry Farm where they saw live birds and were taught best poultry practices on the farm.
On the third day, a panel discussion took place where participants had interaction with industry experts and value chain service providers.
The Poultry Youth Mentorship and Business Bootcamp was also held simultaneously in the Ashanti and Northern regions of the country.
The Greater Accra Bootcamp saw over 50 participants from across the region. A total of 30 participants will be selected from the three regions based on their business proposals. The top three from each region will be given grants to start up.
The Poultry Mentorship Programme since its initiation in 2017 has opened economic opportunities to Ghanaian youth, especially young graduates with passion for poultry entrepreneurship.
The programme has enabled more than 20 young women and men to establish new thriving businesses across various productive segments of the poultry value chain by developing their technical, leadership and entrepreneurship skills through mentoring.
This year’s theme was “Creating Access and Opportunities for the Next Generation Agribusiness Entrepreneur”.
