In a quest to make Accra one of the cleanest city in West Africa, about 850 security personnel on Thursday embarked on a clean-up exercise.
The exercise which started from Paloma ring road saw security personals drawn from the Army, police, fire service and immigration service partake in the clean-up exercise.
Speaking to JoyNews, the Municipal Chief Executive for the Ayawaso Central revealed that the exercise is part of an initiative to help government achieve its target to rid the city of filth.

Alhaji Mohamed Quaye added that the Accra Regional Minister, Henry Quartey together with his outfit thought it best to intervene and help tackle the issue of sanitation in Ghana.
"This is where everybody, outsiders come and how the regional minister saw, here is not fine at all. Is not good at all. It does not speak well of Ghana particularly Accra. So he said today we should gather so that we do this cleaning," he stated.

The cleanup exercise comes on the backdrop of a pledge President Akufo-Addo made in his first term in office to make Accra the cleanest city in Africa.
This pledge saw his outfit introduce a Sanitation and Pollution Levy to help address the issues of sanitation in the country.

Urging Ghanaians to make Akufo-Addo's vision a reality, he entreated all citizens to make it their mandate in fighting out filth in the communities.
Alhaji Mohamed Quaye further indicated that the project dubbed “Make Greater Accra work again agenda” will be done every week as a means to clamp down the canker.
“The Bible says cleanliness is next to godliness so we are doing this even to show to God that really we are doing to his will and we are doing this towards thereafter.”
