Deputy Minister-designate for Lands and Natural Resources, George Mireku Duker, has called for calm among residents of La over reservations surrounding some stool lands at Tse Addo.
According to Mr Duker, the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor, is engaging with stakeholders to find a solution to the issue at hand.
His comments come after the La Stool and Traditional Council protested on some lands in contention located between Tse Addo and Airport Hills, around the Military Cemetery to register their displeasure over the military’s encroachment.
The demonstration which took place last week saw protestors violently removed from the premises including the media, an action the Ghana Armed Forces has justified as necessary to protect national security installations.
But speaking on JoyNews' The Pulse, the deputy Minister-designate explained that “the solution will come out of the deliberations, we have to find out a possible and lasting solution to solve this matter."
"You know this matter comes up anytime we have any positions so it is been running as well as the ministry is concerned. So I believe the minister with his experience as a lawyer going through some of these things I believe will come out with a possible solution," he added.
During a tour last month to assess the military's activities on the lands, the La Traditional Council, the Trustees of the East Dadekotopon Development Trust, and the Coalition of Associations in La (COLA) pledged their resolve to see to it that the right thing is done.
The Council said they have held negotiations with the government, represented by the former Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, over the matter.
Meanwhile, the Coalition of La Youths Association want a parliamentary probe into the violence unleashed on them when they protested against what they say is an encroachment of their lands by the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).
