Piccadilly Ghana has donated products worth ¢20,000 to the Muslim community as the company celebrates its 65th anniversary.
Piccadilly which has produced freshly baked biscuits right here in Ghana for over six decades donated these items at the office of the National Chief Imam, as the Muslim community celebrates the Ramadan festival.
“We decided that since the Muslim community would be having their fasting tomorrow, and sometimes they need biscuits to go with their diet, we decided that we should donate to the Chief Imam whom we definitely know will share to his members.”
Speaking at the event, Ambassador for the Piccadilly brand Mikki Osei Berko encouraged Ghanaians to patronize the products because they are made in Ghana.
“I always encourage Ghanaians to get closer to Piccadilly biscuits because they are baked here and their served here. You can’t imagine eating biscuits that have been baked several months ago and imported into this country. This is freshly baked biscuits and that’s why we’re talking about it this much,” he said.
The National Chief Imam, Sheikh Usman Nuhu Sharubutu thanked the company for their kind gesture.
The Spokesperson of the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Aremeyaw Shaibu also commented on the recent murder of the 10 year old boy at Kasoa attributing it as negligence on the part of the parents of the perpetrators, the country's poor education system as well as non-vigilance of religious bodies.
Although he admits the media cannot be absolved, he believes it is not the only institution to be blamed for the callous crimes the youth are now committing, just to get rich.
“The source of it (the crime), I’m unable to determine clearly because it comes from different dimensions. The failure of the family is one, the failure of religious communities, in other words, we are religious but not righteous, because all over us we see religion, but still children of this age can engage in this?, there’s something wrong. It is not the fault of the media alone. The media is only one dimension of the failure, “he stated.
Speaking at a donation organised by Piccadilly, Sheikh Aremeyaw Shaibu expressed how devastated the Muslim community was upon hearing of the murder of the 10-year-old boy.
He believes the crime only explains how lowly our moral systems have sunk;
“That murder, that ritual murder is seen by us through the national chief imam as a tragedy, for teenagers of this age to have the heart and the courage to engage in this act in fact is an indication that of the depth to which and a country and society we have sunk in terms of our morality”.
