The Circuit Court in Berekum has adjourned the case between the Aduana Stars defender, Farouk Adams, and the Republic to June 9.
According to the prosecutor, Emmanuel Sampson, they are through with the investigation and have sent the docket to the Attorney General for advice.
The suspect Farouk Adams is accused of killing police officer, Constable Amos Niganoka Mattey after an alleged hit-and-run on 1st March 2021.
Farouk was later arrested on the March 2, 2021, and charged with a total of six counts.
The charges are; careless and inconsiderate driving, negligently causing harm, and failing to report the accident to police. The rest are, failing to stop to attend to an accident victim, driving a motor vehicle without valid road use certificates, and driving a motor vehicle without valid insurance.
On his first appearance in court on March 4, Adams was remanded into police custody for 14 days.
His second appearance in court saw him granted bail of ₵60,000 with four sureties, one to be justified, and had also deposited all his travel documents at the registry of the court.
The central defender appeared again on April 7, 2021, but the presiding judge, Osei Kofi Amoako, adjourned the case to 5th May 2021 because the prosecutor, Emmanuel Sampson, failed to show up in court.
“We have been investigating this case since it happened, and we have now finished. But in cases of this nature, we send the docket to the Attorney General’s office for advice after concluding the investigation, and that is what happened today”, the prosecutor briefly told the media.
The defence counsel, Lawyer Akoto Boafo said he hopes by the next appearance in court, the Attorney General would have come out with his advice on the docket sent because “without it, the case cannot be tried”.
Farouk Adams resumed training with his club, Aduana Stars, two weeks ago since the incident happened.
Depending on his mental toughness, Adams could be back on the field soon, to help the Dormaa based premier league club in the ongoing Ghana Premier League.
Meanwhile, late Constable Amos Niganoka Mattey has been buried in an emotionally charged atmosphere on 17th April 2021 at Tampe-Kukuo in Tamale.
