The national leadership of the Electoral Commission says it had no hand in violence that marred the collation process at Techiman South constituency during the 2020 polls that resulted in the death of some voters.
The Commission was in December 2020 accused by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) of supervising a collation process that saw its parliamentary candidate robbed of victory in a quest to secure a New Patriotic Party parliamentary majority.
In a yet to be aired interview on The Probe, Dr Eric Bossman Asare, the Deputy Chairman of the Commission in charge of Corporate Services insists that such allegations are without merit.
He argues that the national office had no hand in what transpired there.
“I know in line of work, people have accused you of several things, there are many things that we’ve been accused of which we don’t even know anything about some of the things we even hear them from [the media].
“So no one and I can completely vouch that nobody controlled what happened at Techiman South from the Head Office. We were mainly interested in the presidential. Because the lines of authority when it comes to Parliamentary and Parliamentary is very clear,” he told Emefa Apawu.
Already the EC has tagged the 2020 general election as the most successful, well-coordinated, seamless, and peaceful election organised in the history of the fourth republic.
Speaking at a post-election forum organized by the Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO), EC’s Director of Training, Micheal Boadu said in spite of the Covid-19 pandemic, its leadership worked fervently to ensure that the exercise is carried out smoothly.
