The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) say the scheduled power outages in parts of Western Accra will last for eight days instead of the advertised seven.
In a joint statement, the power distribution companies stated that due to the construction of the Pokuase Bulk Supply Point (BSP), affected areas will experience periodic power cuts starting this week and end on May 17.
They stated that “a timetable to guide the eight-day schedule has already been circulated by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to the affected customers and the general public.”
According to the power distribution companies, several key projects are currently ongoing to enhance power supply reliability in the Greater Accra, Central, and Ashanti regions.
These key projects include the Pokuase Bulk Supply Point which the US government is funding through the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) at $60m, and the Kasoa Bulk Supply Unit (BSP) project which costs $50m.
The Pokuase BSP is expected to be completed by the first half of 2021 whereas the Kasoa BSP will be ready by August.
