Armed men attack NPP Communicator

Bawa Abdul Samed

Six armed men believed to be members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Sunday allegedly attacked a senior communicator of the party near his residence in Langbinsi in the North East Region.

Bawa Abdul Samed was allegedly attacked by the heavily built men who were said to be armed with machetes, pickaxe, and rocks.

Speaking to JoyNews, he said that the attackers stabbed him multiple times until he fell to the ground.

Mr Samed told regional correspondent, Illiasu Tanko, that after suffering some injuries he feigned death before they abandoned him and fled in a white pickup vehicle.

"I was on my way home when they attacked me. They arrived in a pickup vehicle, six of them, and the driver pointed at me.

"When I tried to run away, they cornered me in an uncompleted building and assaulted me. They stabbed me severally until he fell," Bawa told JoyNews.

He was rushed to the Baptist Medical Center in Nalerigu where he received treatment. The case was reported later to the police. Mr Samed, accused the party regional executives of ordering the attack.

"They said I insulted them on the radio yesterday so they ordered their boys to kill me, but I'm not dead", the communicator explained.

However, the North East Regional Chairman of the NPP, Nurudeen Fuseini, has rejected the allegations made against the executives and called for restraint among party members following the attack.

He assured that the party would cooperate closely with the police to fully investigate the matter.
