Veteran Ghanaian coach, Joseph Emmanuel Sarpong, believes Charles Akonnor has betrayed Ghanaian coaches by going for a foreigner as his assistant.
On May 30, the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association agreed to the request of Akonnor for the appointment of a second assistant coach of the Black Stars.
Lots of Ghanaians have reacted to this news including Veteran coach J.E. Sarpong.
According to him, Akonnor has betrayed Ghanaian coaches by going for an European assistant coach.
"It was CK. Akonnor who wanted an assistant coach and then he over saw the need to not engage a Ghanaian coach to assist him, he went on to bring a white man back. So whether I am positive or not I think he is the best person to tell us what we will derive from that.
But I feel in so doing, I believe he has stabbed the Ghanaian coaches at the back. Of course he is the one in charge of the Black Stars, he wants to pass anywhere to qualify the team and get whatever credentials he wants. That is his own cup of tea. If you look at it critically, he doesn't even trust his assistant, the black assistant and that is why he is going for a white man," he said in an interview with Joy Sports.
The incoming new assistant coach, Patrick Greveraars is a UEFA License A holder with over 25 years of football experience worldwide having previously worked with FC Porto, PSV Eindjoven, Vitesse Arnhem, Feyenoord Rotterdam, Anorthosis Famagusta and Al Shanab Dubai.
The 45-year old is currently in Ghana to assist the team with the upcoming international friendlies with Morocco and Ivory Coast and also wrap up talks ahead of his appointment.
