The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) in the Lambussie District of the Upper West Region says the heavy rains in the area last month has caused a great deal of damage.
A heavy downpour on Sunday, May 23 and Wednesday, May 26 in the district has damaged 53 houses, including items such as foodstuffs, television, books, and clothing.
The Lambussie District NADMO Director, Dontege Belinku Aloysius, said, "the organisation is confronted with a series of challenges preventing us from carrying out our task to the fullest any time such an unfortunate incident happens."
Communities such as Hiineteng, Liero, Chognouri, Koro-bognuo, Chebogo, Pina, and Bulli were badly affected.
Thunderstorms accompanied by strong wind unroofed the Lambussie Community Day Senior High School and some other schools.
The NADMO Director revealed the organization is in dire need of relief items to support disaster victims, adding that another major challenge is inadequate staffing.
“Since 2020 up to now, no relief item has been giving to us and that prevent some zonal officers from going for disaster report,” he said.
He added that “Lack of funds to organise community durbars and radio programs, and means of transport to ease our work” is another area that needs attention.
Mr Aloysius is, therefore, appealing for support to enable them to provide some relief to victims.
