President Akufo-Addo has called on the private sector to support government as it earmarks this year to wholly deal with the sanitation issues facing the country.
Commissioning over 100 waste and disinfectant trucks for the Zoomlion Ghana Limited on Tuesday, the President said government cannot work on its own to deal with the filth, thus, private business should consider partnering his administration to achieve the Clean Ghana Agenda.
He indicated that the waste management sector presents an enormous opportunity that can be exploited.
“Rapid population growth with its consequence increase in human activities at the commercial, residential and industrial levels has meant that waste generation activities continues to be a challenge in the country.
“Currently, we (Ghana) generates 7, 517, 540 metric tonnes of waste. This situation you would agree presents enormous investment opportunities for which the private sector can take advantage. I will, therefore, reiterate my invitation for more private sector companies to collaborate with government in creating business opportunities in the waste management space,” he said.
President Akufo-Addo further promised that his government will create an enabling space for private sector players to have enough room to help provide a sustainable solution to the nations sanitary problems.
“Government remains committed to achieving our development objective as well our targets under the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, that is, Health under Goal 3, Sanitation under Goal 6 and Decent work and Economic growth under Goal 8, Sustainable cities and communities under Goal 11 and Climate Change under Goal 13,” he said.
