Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen is awake after he collapsed during his country's Euro 2020 opener against Finland. The incident forced organisers to suspend the game but the player has regained consciousness after receiving first aid before been transferred to the hospital.
It is unclear what caused the Inter Milan midfielder to collapse but there were worrying scenes as medics spent about twenty minutes administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
Some members of the Danish team formed a phalanx around the player as medics worked to resuscitate him while goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel and defender Simon Kjær moved to console Eriksen's wife who was moving towards the scene from the stands.
Christian Eriksen was later stretched off to applause from the fans.
European football governing body Uefa has issued a statement saying Eriksen "has been stabilised" but with no clarity on the way forward regarding the suspended game. It said a crisis meeting had taken place with both teams and match officials and further information will be communicated at 19:45 CET.
