After missing out on the 2016 edition, the Netherlands have made a return to the competition in hopes of repeating their only triumph in 1988. Frank De Boer’s men had a relatively simple road to qualification, taking second spot in Group C.
They did it convincingly too, scoring 24 goals in eight games (3 goals per game) whilst conceding just seven. With the likes of Wijnaldum and Depay among others, Netherlands can dream of making a strong run.
Ukraine had a strong run into the competition, beating the likes of Portugal and Serbia to take first spot in Group B. With Andriy Shevchenko, a legend at the helm, the Yellow and Blue will surely go into the competition with confidence.
Look out for Memphis Depay
Despite placing second in Group C during qualification, the Dutch side scored 24 in eight games and Lyon forward Memphis Depay played a huge part in those figures. The former Manchester United man scored six goals and assisted a further seven.
This means that the Barcelona linked star was directly involved in 54.17% of Netherland’s goals during qualification, an indication of how the team relies on his creativity and finishing.
Ukraine would have to fashion effective ways to slow Depay down or risk a bloodbath.
The odds
Netherlands are huge favorites to win this tie, with Betway pricing their odds at 1.59 whilst Ukraine have their odds at 5.82. Memphis Depay has the lowest odds among the anytime scorers list (2.62). A one goal handicap for Ukraine has also been priced at 2.30.
